MoneyGram Ramps Puts 500,000 Cash Locations Behind One Solana API

MoneyGram launched MoneyGram Ramps on Solana on August 11, 2026, giving developers one API for moving money between cash and crypto across nearly 500,000 retail locations in more than 200 countries and territories.

Cash deposits are supported in over 25 countries. Withdrawals reach more than 170 countries and territories. MoneyGram counts over 60 million active customers, and Ramps is the product that opens that footprint to apps built by other people.

Solana is the second blockchain Ramps supports. The first was Stellar, where the product has been in production for several years.

Getting fiat in and out of an app normally means banking partners, money transmitter licensing, and a separate integration for every market you want to serve. Ramps replaces that work with one API call and MoneyGram's existing compliance stack.

By connecting our ecosystem to MoneyGram's global payments network through MoneyGram Ramps, developers are able to build financial applications with real-world utility at global scale. - Lily Liu, President, Solana Foundation

What does the Ramps API actually give developers?

Both directions run through a single implementation, and USDC is the asset on the crypto side. Your users hand cash to an agent and load USDC into a Solana wallet, or they send USDC and collect local currency at a MoneyGram counter. Settlement is real-time on the stablecoin side with instant fiat payout at the location, and the identity and compliance checks that cash handoffs require happen on MoneyGram's side of the API.

What comes with it:

  • Instant API credentials and sandbox access. You can start testing before any commercial conversation.

  • Documentation and SDKs for wiring Ramps into a wallet, exchange, or app.

  • No banking integrations to build. MoneyGram already holds the licenses and the retail relationships in each market.

  • Real-time settlement, so your app doesn't have to cover the money while a transfer clears.

Cash is the only rail live today. MoneyGram lists bank account, mobile wallet, and debit card off-ramps as coming soon, along with bank account and debit card on-ramps.

Ramps ships inside the Solana Developer Platform

The Solana Developer Platform (SDP) is Solana's set of hosted API modules for building financial apps. Issuance, wallet management, and payments each get a module, and you assemble an app from them instead of building each piece yourself. MoneyGram Ramps now sits in the payments module. If you're already building on SDP, cash access becomes another module you switch on, with no second vendor contract and no second SDK.

MoneyGram joined SDP as an infrastructure partner in June 2026, and it also runs a Solana validator, staking SOL and processing blocks. Luke Tuttle, MoneyGram's chief product and technology officer, has described that as putting the company inside Solana's consensus at the protocol level.

Remittances, payroll, and aid are the target use cases

Every use case MoneyGram and the Solana Foundation are pointing at involves someone on the other end who may not have a bank account.

  • Remittances. A sender funds a transfer in crypto, and the recipient collects local currency at a counter without needing a bank.

  • Payroll. Distributed teams and gig workers get paid onchain and cash out where they live.

  • Aid disbursement. Funds reach regions where banking coverage is thin but retail agents are not.

Stablecoin apps move value quickly. The harder part is the last mile, where somebody needs to turn a balance into groceries, and nearly 500,000 staffed counters is a different answer to that than another card program.

Rift is the first Solana wallet to ship the integration. Rift is an AI-powered trading platform covering equities, commodities, crypto, and forex, and its users can now move between digital assets and local currency without leaving the app. Ramps works there as a funding and exit path inside a product whose main business is trading, which is what most integrations are likely to look like.

Getting started with MoneyGram Ramps

Developers can register for partner onboarding for API credentials and sandbox access. If you'd rather come at it from the Solana side, the payments module is where Ramps appears alongside the rest of SDP.

With MoneyGram Ramps, Solana developers get a cash network that took decades to build, and MoneyGram gets that network in front of every builder on a chain with fast transactions and low fees.
