The Algorand Foundation has launched the Algorand Developer Greenhouse, a curated list of educational content for developers to start building projects in the Algorand Ecosystem.
Developers new to Web3 or experienced developers just starting on Algorand have a wide range of resources including Virtual Hacks, Tech Talks, live “Hack Shack” events, and access to a global community of experienced builders to learn from.
We built the Developer Greenhouse to provide a central place for developers to connect, network, learn, and grow with one another, with the support of resources and events from the Algorand Foundation.

The Algorand Developer Greenhouse is made up of three main pillars:
Tech Talks are the next generation of the AVM event that took place in Austin during Consensus. They’re a series of developer focused educational events consisting of panel discussions, presentations, showcases, and networking opportunities.
This global event kicks off in Singapore during #TOKEN2049.
Hack Shacks are where skilled Web3 developers can level up with direct access to DevRel support and the opportunity to participate in live events around the world.
Participants can join workshops on Algorand dApp development, and platform specific topics like ASAs, Smart Contract integration, protocol architecture, UI/UX, and DSL builds.
Greenhouse Virtual Hacks puts all that learning to work with direct support from developers already building within the Algorand ecosystem. These online hackathons are meant to give developers a better understanding of how to build real-world projects on Algorand.
Each virtual hackathon runs for approximately 5 weeks each. Winning projects receive a hackathon challenge reward and the opportunity to receive grants, accelerator funding, or mentorship.

Algorand is committed to being an environmentally friendly, and carbon-neutral blockchain.
It achieves this by not only emitting low carbon emissions, but also donating significantly to Climate Trade, a company whose goal is to develop solutions to offset carbon emissions and financing climate change projects.
To reach this climate goal, Algorand and Climate Trade implement a “sustainability oracle ” that validates Algorand’s carbon footprint on-chain for each epoch. Algorand will lock the equivalent amount of carbon credit as an Algorand Standard Asset (ASA) into a “green” treasury. As a result, the protocol will run as carbon-negative.
One major advantage to developing on Algorand is that developers can build applications using programming languages they’re already familiar with.
Algorand supports Reach, Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, along with community SDKs, such for Rust, Swift, PHP, C#,and more.
Reach, a JavaScript style language, lowers the bar of entry for Algorand development by providing a JavaScript like language, a wide range of build tools, and detailed documentation and tutorials to get you started.
Algorand uses a two-tiered blockchain design to maintain speed while running smart contracts.
The layer 1 is for creating Algorand Standard Assets: new or existing tokens on the blockchain, swaps and simple Algorand smart contracts.
The layer-2 is for more advanced smart contracts and dApps that run off-chain. This method enables the Algorand blockchain to handle transactions where fast transaction speeds are required.
Algorand uses a variation of Proof of Stake called Pure Proof of Stake (PPoS) to verify transactions and add blocks to the blockchain. Its main goal is to democratize the process of block creation by allowing anyone who holds a balance of at least 1 ALGO to be able to validate blocks on the blockchain.
The Algorand protocol randomly and privately selects a block leader. Selecting the leader privately is an important feature to help reduce MEV and attacks from bad actors.
